School Attendance, Secondary
What does this measure?
The average number of students in seventh through twelfth grades attending school each day, divided by the total possible number of students attending school each day.
Why is this important?
Youths who do not regularly attend school are at higher risk of failing and dropping out, exhibiting delinquent behavior and engaging in various forms of risky behaviors.
How are Cayuga and Seneca counties performing?
In 2010, an average of 94% of secondary school students attended school each day in both Cayuga and Seneca counties, slightly above the state (excluding NYC) rate of 92%. Rates have remained flat or increased slightly since 2000, with the exception of Oswego County, where attendance declined 2 percentage points since 2000. Average attendance rates were between 93%–95% in 2010 for all school districts in both Cayuga and Seneca.
