Using the Site

Using the Site

The website has been designed with the intention of facilitating use of the data. We encourage you to download the data tables, create your own charts, and use the materials presented throughout the site. Each indicator will provide you with the opportunity to download the data, email the indicator, or print the complete indicator (including analysis, chart and data tables) into a PDF document. You can also interact with the charts, selecting which data to display, and export chart images.

Indicator Features

The Cayuga and Seneca Counties Community Profile provides data for 70 indicators grouped into 7 main topics. Each indicator is composed of three tabbed sections: Analysis, Chart, and Data Tables.

Analysis

Analysis is presented on the main tab of each indicator and includes the following sections:

What does this measure?
Provides the definition of the indicator.

Why is this important?
Describes the significance of the indicator.

How are Cayuga and Seneca counties performing?
Describes how the counties have fared on the indicator over a number of years and shows comparisons to the state and nation when available.

Notes about the data
Provides information about the data including how calculations were done, changes in reporting or data collection methods, or other caveats to be aware of when interpreting the data.

Chart

Each indicator includes a chart tab that typically displays data for the project counties, state and nation. Depending on the indicator, data may not be available for all geographic locations for every year. The charts are dynamically generated and can be altered by selecting or de-selecting geographies displayed below the chart. Charts can be printed or exported using buttons on the top right.

Data tables

The data table tab provides detailed breakdowns for each of the geographies, including data for the counties, state, and nation, when possible. For most indicators, you can find a table showing the rates and percentages used to make the chart for the indicator, as well as a table showing the raw numbers upon which calculations were based.

Data tables present data for the most recent year available as well as historical data, typically going back to 2000, for trending purposes.

Key Trends

To assist in interpreting the indicators, a summary of overall trends is presented for each of the 7 topics. The topic trends can be found on the left menu bar on the main topic pages.

Regional Overview

The Regional Overview is a summary of key trends from all of the topics. As a "state of the region," this section highlights the most important indicators and trends to provide an overall picture of what is happening in Cayuga and Seneca counties.

Caveats about Accuracy

CGR has been very careful in collecting, analyzing, and presenting data from a variety of sources. Although CGR has judged its data sources to be reliable, it was not possible to authenticate all data. If careful users of the website discover data errors or typographical errors, CGR welcomes this feedback and will incorporate corrections into the data updates. Please contact CGR directly with such information at (585) 325–6360 or by email.
